National Honor Society
Frontier’s Chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes 11th –12th grade students who have attended Frontier for at least one semester and demonstrated outstanding performance in four areas:
· Scholarship requirements are to earn and maintain a cumulative 3.5 or higher ranking GPA. Grade of “F” for a semester excludes participation.
· Leadership requirements can vary, but would include ASB offices held, athletic participation, club membership, community involvement, and many other school and non-school related activities demonstrating initiative, and a sacrifice of personal interests in the interest of others.
· Service requirements are those contributions a candidate has made to classmates, school, and community through volunteerism, without payment or compensation.
· A person of Character demonstrates the following qualities: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring and citizenship; takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously; upholds principles of morality and ethics; complies with school regulations; is punctual; avoids cheating or copying of work, and/or profiting from the mistakes/ failures of others. Suspension and/or academic dishonesty disqualifies the student.
Invited candidates must meet the criteria of each of the four categories to become a National Honor Society member. Membership is not assumed each school year, and candidates must reapply each spring in grades 11 – 12 to renew membership. A faculty council will review each candidate’s application in the spring and students will be selected for membership. Senior members will be honored in the spring at the Senior Honors Luncheon. Beginning with the class of 2013, seniors who have been awarded membership will receive a cord to be worn during the Commencement Ceremony.
